Scholarship Opportunities in Slovakia

The Slovak Republic offers various scholarship programs for international students, researchers, and academic staff. These opportunities are designed to foster international cooperation, academic exchange, and cultural enrichment. Currently, there are two main scholarship programs available for Tanzanian nationals.

National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic

The National Scholarship Programme (NSP) supports mobility of students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists. It offers scholarships to cover living costs during stays at universities and research organizations. The Programme supports two-way mobility — international scholarship holders to Slovakia, as well as Slovak scholarship holders abroad.

Important Dates

Application Deadline: 30 April 2025 (16:00 CEST) for stays during the next academic year

Next Deadline: 31 October 2025 (16:00 CET) for stays during the summer semester of the 2025/2026 academic year

What is Offered for International Applicants:
  • Scholarships covering living costs for students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists
  • Travel allowance to cover travel costs related to study/research stays in Slovakia (for students and PhD students)
Monthly Scholarship Amounts:
  • University student: €620
  • PhD student: €1,025.50
  • University teacher, researcher or artist without PhD degree and less than 4 years of work experience: €1,025.50
  • With PhD degree and less than 10 years of work experience: €1,370
  • With PhD degree and more than 10 years of work experience: €1,470

Citizens of any country in the world can apply, except citizens of the Slovak Republic.

Slovak Government Scholarships

The Government of the Slovak Republic has allocated one scholarship for a Tanzanian student to pursue Bachelor's leading to Master's degree studies for the Academic Year 2025/2026.

Application Period: March 24th to May 25th, 2025

Age Limitation: 18 to 26 years old by September 1st, 2025 (for undergraduate studies)

Scholarship Benefits:

The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation expenses, and subsistence allowances for the whole duration of studies. Students will need to pay for their airfare (approximately €800) and are recommended to have about €800 at the beginning of their stay.

Language Requirements:

The scholarship is only for studies conducted in the Slovak language. Students who cannot speak Slovak will first pass a 10-month Slovak language course (also covered by the scholarship).
